Production

We worked intensively on our new piece You Are In My Everywhere
and shared a unique version of it on three evenings each at Gibney Dance Center Theater.

You Are In My Everywhere

is a vivid composition for three dancers and two musicians.

Where every space has time
Where each time has space
Where sounds caress words
Where words dissolve into light
Where light fullfills a poem
Where poetry comes alive

Thanks to a cultural scholarship from the city of GDAŃSK (Zrealizowano ze środków Miasta Gdańska w ramach Stypendium Kulturalnego), the collective spent 2 weeks in Poland. For the first time, we were able to continue working with the same musicians from a previous residency !

We shared our new work, Punto, at PLAMA in the historic Zaspa neighborhood; and our residency space PIK. At PIK we created a multi-part evening that began with an audience movement workshop, then a performance and finally a gallery reception/exhibition of photos.

We also shared an instant composition workshop with local professional dancers and amateur movers, accompanied by live music.

Italy 2021

Despite three postponements, ∞therside collective held their 2021 residency in Italy. We created a new evening length work, Al Momento Giusto, during a residency at Centro Sociale La Resistenza (Ferrara). We co-produced two evenings of performances at Paleotto 11 (Bologna) and ArteNativae (San Prospero) with an accompanying photo exhibit by Mirko Lancerotto. Embracing the resilient community spirit of the place and the times, we performed in village festivals, taught workshops at local dance studios, and hosted an outdoor jam for musicians and dancers. We also had the privilege of sharing an evening of collaborative practice and cultural exchange with Sicilian frame drum master, Alfio Antico.

Spring 2020, Everywhere/Virtual

In response to the global pandemic ∞therside came together for weekly online practices. For 5 months, we confronted uncertainty together, maintaining collective practice, and researching “live improvised cinema” using Zoom as both a platform and a tool for improvisation. We also created a practice of asynchronously exchanging solos: each week one member recorded a short solo work in either music or movement, and all other members created their own response. The group developed tools for remote collaboration, feedback, and creative process.

Our short film, “In There/In Here” was selected for Sanskar India’s 2020 Digital Festival.

∞therside gathered for a 2 week creative residency at the Stavros Village Cultural Center in Stavros, Greece. Joined by local musicians, Giorgios Kalamakis and Sokrates Votskos, we studied greek folk dances and rhythms and incorporated elements of those into our work. We performed an evening length work, less is more, for 2 nights at Studio 29A in Thessaloniki and shared 3 days of workshops with local dance students there. We also toured to neighboring city, Drama to perform in their traditional amphitheater, curated as special guests for of an evening of improvisation.

This close-knit gathering of performers helped cement the collective’s core group, resulting in the creation of our (wo)manifesto organizing document and the formalization of our commitment to each other as a permanent collective.

8 dancers from 8 different countries gathered in Bratislava, united only by their shared experience of studying David Zambrano’s Passing Through work intensively the year before. We quickly discovered we were able to live, work and create together by applying the same values used to create instant compositions to our collective organizing. After a 2 week residency at Nova Cvernovka, we performed two versions of our work. First, at Štúdio 12 in Bratislava with experimental electronic music group Zoo & Aquarium, and then at T3, a reclaimed tram, turned-music-venue with percussionist Ivo Palenčár. We developed structures and scores to expand beyond Passing Through and at the end of the residency a core group of members committed to meeting again, as ootherside collective.
